If you’re reading this, chances are you’ve been battling anxiety or depression, searching for a glimmer of hope. Perhaps you’ve tried countless approaches, yet nothing seems to offer lasting relief. You’re not alone in feeling stuck—this journey can be overwhelming.
A Prayer for Anxiety and Depression
Dear Lord,
I come to You today to ask for help. You are my everything. Lord, I need rest. I give You my worry. Take it, Lord. I accept Your peace, love, and understanding. Help me to turn to You and not to myself, to stop doing and start trusting. Help me to wait on Your answers, because I know that they are good. Give me wisdom, hope, and peace. Thank you, Lord, for Your patience and grace. I love You, and I know You love me so much more than I could ever imagine.
Amen.
Overcoming Your Fears, Anxiety And Stress
You might hope the prayer above will make it all disappear—poof! The pain is gone, and you’re back to normal. But feeling lost, afraid, or guilty is tough, especially when you can’t seem to “be anxious for nothing.” I’ve been there, deeply.
When you dive into Scripture, you’ll find countless verses about worry. I searched them all, hoping for a magic formula to finally overcome it. But what I discovered was surprising. If you look closely, there’s a simple instruction from our Father: do nothing. Yes, nothing.
If you search through Scripture, you’ll come across many verses about worry. I know because I searched them, hoping to find a quick fix to finally beat it. What I found, however, was unexpected. Hidden within these verses is a simple command from our Father: do nothing. Yes, nothing.
In Matthew 11:28 NIV, Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” He is doing the work here, not us. We just have to come to Him.
In John 14:27 NIV, He says, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you …” Are you sensing a theme? He is giving us peace. He is giving us rest. We do nothing.
Again in Matthew 6:25-34 NIV, this famous passage tells us not to worry, for God even “clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire,” so how much more will He take care of us? Here we are told to “seek first his kingdom … and all these things will be given” to us. That’s right—did you catch that? Given!
It wasn’t until I embraced the act of doing nothing that I truly found peace.
God is the ultimate giver. There are things we simply can’t handle on our own, and that’s exactly how He intended it. All He asks is that we trust Him and come to Him—He takes care of the rest. Looking back, all those things I worried about eventually worked out, one way or another. My constant worrying, however, took a toll on my body and spirit, leading to anxiety and depression.
It wasn’t until I paused, breathed, rested, and truly surrendered everything to Jesus that I found peace. When I let go of the need to control, trusted Him fully, and did nothing, my prayers shifted. They became less about my circumstances and more about my faith in Him.
If this resonates with you, I encourage you to rest. Find a quiet moment away from the noise, and bring your heart to God. Use this prayer for anxiety and depression as a reminder to release your burdens and wait on Him with trust and hope. Keep it somewhere close—on your phone, a mirror, or a notebook—as a gentle prompt to surrender daily. I promise, God will lead you toward healing. He will give you rest and peace beyond anything you could imagine. Trust Him—you’re in good hands.
